DePaul Finishes Fifth at BIG EAST Championship

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 60 DePaul men's tennis team wasn't just playing for fifth place in the BIG EAST Conference Championship, it was also playing its rival Marquette in the season finale for both teams and the Blue Demons walked away victorious with 4-2 win on Sunday at Leeper Park.
Sunday's dual was the second between the two teams this season while the Blue Demons have now won their last six matches against their rival Marquette.
DePaul (18-9) finished the season on a two-match winning streak and took fifth place in the conference tournament. Sunday's match was the final for Blue Demon seniors Ben Hartman and Bartosz Jozwiak.
Hartman only played doubles but his performance with George Chanturia clinched the doubles point for the Blue Demons. The pair topped Otavio Perim and Thibault Troude 8-4 and pushed momentum in favor of DePaul heading into singles play.
Matijia Palinic gave the Blue Demons a 2-0 advantage with his 6-2, 6-2 win over Perim on the third court.
Marquette (14-12) followed with a win on sixth court for its first point of the dual.
Filip Dzanko followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Troude on the fourth court before the Golden Eagles recorded a win on the second court.
Knowing he could clinch DePaul's 18th win of the season, Jozwiak did just that and closed out his senior season with a dramatic 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) win over Logon Collins. Jozwiak finished his season with a 22-12 singles mark and during his four-year career went an impressive 79-53 in singles action.
With a win today in the top doubles position, Jozwiak finishes his career with a 76-54 record. He went 26-11 during his final season and was 15-8 in the top position with Sven Kasper.
Playing one of its toughest schedules in recent history, the Blue Demons have spent the last 12 weeks in the Campbell's/ITA Team Tennis poll. DePaul finished with 126 singles wins and recorded 68 doubles victories.
