CHICAGO - The BIG EAST Conference announced its 2011-12 women's basketball league and television schedule on Wednesday. The Blue Demons have six league games televised, highlighted by their Marquette game on Feb. 12 which airs on ESPN2.
"When you coach in the BIG EAST, schedule release day is always a big day," head women's basketball coach Doug Bruno said after taking his first look at his team's conference slate.
"Having the names of all the great BIG EAST staring you in the face and connecting these great teams and coaches, the degree of difficulty starts at 'really tough' and advances to 'impossible.' It makes a coaches' head spin."
DePaul breaks from its non-conference schedule and plays St. John's on Dec. 7. The game has been tabbed "Field Trip Day" and the Blue Demons welcome 3,000 Chicagoland school children for that matinee contest in Lincoln Park.
DePaul's first BIG EAST game is four days prior to its marquee non-conference match-up with Tennessee at the Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Blue Demons' contest with the Lady Vols is slated to be aired on ESPNU and is the team's first nationally televised contest of the 2011-12 season.
After concluding its non-conference schedule on New Year's Eve, the Blue Demons play back-to-back road games which kick-starts its league schedule in January. DePaul tangles at Georgetown on Jan. 3 and at Providence four days later on Jan. 7.
The Blue Demons host Pittsburgh on Jan. 14 before traveling to Tampa for a clash with USF on Jan. 17.
DePaul hosts Final Four participant Connecticut (Jan. 21) before tangling with the Scarlet Knights in New Jersey Jan. 24. The Blue Demons tilt with Rutgers is scheduled to air on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) at 6 p.m. (CST).
DePaul closes out the first month of the year at Seton Hall (Jan. 28) and by hosting Louisville on Jan. 31. The Blue Demons and Cardinals contest is the second half of a BIG EAST women's basketball doubleheader on CBSSN.
DePaul begins February at its rival and National Runner-Up Notre Dame on Feb. 5. The contest in South Bend will be carried ESPNU.
The Blue Demons host Villanova on Feb. 8 before welcoming Marquette on Feb. 12 for the Play 4Kay game (formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone) on ESPN2.
DePaul closes out the regular season with four games -- two of which are televised, in 10 days. The Blue Demons play at West Virginia on Feb. 18 and welcome Syracuse on the 21st. The clash between DePaul and Orange is second half of a BIG EAST women's basketball doubleheader on CBSSN.
The Blue Demons face Louisville again on Feb. 25 -- but this time in Kentucky. The game has been tabbed the BIG EAST Network's (BETV) syndicated Game of the Week.
DePaul closes out the regular season and will celebrate "Senior Night" on Feb. 27 after its game with Cincinnati.
After looking through the schedule a couple times, Bruno added, "you take a deep breath, remind yourself, this is what we signed up for and say to yourself - let's go."
