CHICAGO - DePaul head coach Doug Bruno announced on Friday that Taylor Pikes will miss the 2011-12 season. Pikes, a senior, is recovering from a right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) she sustained during DePaul's NCAA Second Round game at Penn State on March 21, 2011 and will not play this season.
Named the BIG EAST Conference Sixth Man of the Year in 2011, Pikes was an integral part of DePaul's success last season. The Chicago native was the Blue Demons' first option off the bench with 7.0 points and was third on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.
Pikes, who is in her fifth year of enrollment, also sustained an ACL tear as sophomore. The combination guard/forward's 2008-09 season was cut short after she tore her ACL in her left knee in DePaul's fifth game.
Pikes graduated from DePaul in 2011 with a degree in sociology with a concentration in juvenile justice and is currently working on her Masters in Education.
The Blue Demons have been hit by the injury bug this season, announcing on Jan. 8 that preseason All-American Keisha Hampton would miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season after undergoing exploratory knee surgery. On Jan. 4 Bruno announced that Alexa Gallagher (knee) and Chanise Jenkins (ankle) would also miss the season with their respective injuries.
No. 19/21 DePaul (14-3, 2-1 BIG EAST) returns to the court at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 14 when it hosts BIG EAST Conference foe Pittsburgh at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
