CHICAGO - For the fourth time this season, DePaul softball has come away with a BIG EAST Conference weekly award.
Blue Demon sophomore Kirsten Verdun was selected for the Honor Roll on Monday, being recognized as having one of the top performances in the league.
Verdun was a major factor in No. 25 DePaul going 3-1 over the weekend at the FIU Invitational in Miami.
In the four-game event, Verdun was 6-for-14 for a .429 batting average with three home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored.
In the circle, the sophomore pitcher-first baseman went 1-1 with a 1.43 earned-run average. She gave up a total of three earned runs in 14.2 innings.
Verdun certainly found her power stroke in Miami.
After leading the Blue Demons in home runs last season with 11, the lefty slugger went the first 16 games without leaving the ballpark.
She broke out with a solo blast in last Friday's 5-1 victory over Delaware. A day later, Verdun bashed a two-run home run and a three-run homer in leading the Blue Demons to a 12-0, five-inning triumph over Delaware.
On the season, Verdun is batting .379 and leads the team in RBIs with 16. Her three home runs are tied for the team lead with Mary Connolly.
Connolly began the DePaul Honor Roll parade with her selection on Feb. 13 after hitting a walk-off, game-winning home run in her first collegiate at-bat to beat UMKC.
The following week, Bree Brown was chosen for the Honor Roll after holding No. 24 LSU to no earned runs in a 3-1 victory.
Next, sophomore pitcher Hannah Penna made the Honor Roll after going 2-0 and defeating No. 20/17 Georgia Tech 4-2.
Verdun and the Blue Demons will confront four nationally ranked teams beginning Thursday in the prestigious Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
