Martin Named an All-Region Nominee by the WBCA

CHICAGO - DePaul junior guard Anna Martin was named a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region nominee on Thursday. Martin is one of 52 all-region candidates and that list will be trimmed to 40 finalists. From those finalists, the selection committee will name its 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team.
Martin was one of two unanimous first-team All-BIG EAST Selections and enters the NCAA First Round leading the conference and ranks 25th in the country with 19.1 points per game. The Kentucky native scored 30-plus points in two of her last three games - scoring 36 in the team's regular season finale against Cincinnati.
The junior guard leads DePaul with 62 3-pointers, while her .405 percentage from behind the arc ranks fourth in the BIG EAST. Entering the NCAA Tournament; Martin boasts a .819 free throw percentage while she has made her last 14 free throws and 19 of her last 20.
Martin was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week once this season while earning a spot on the weekly honor roll in eight of the 15 weeks. She paced DePaul in scoring in 19 games and led the Blue Demons in assists in 12 games. The junior averages 3.4 assists per game while her 1.1 assist/turnover ratio ranks 12th in the BIG EAST.
No. 23 DePaul (22-10) plays BYU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Mar. 17. The Blue Demons, who are the No. 7 seed in the Des Moines Region, and the tenth-seeded Cougars game, is the second half of women's basketball doubleheader. Game two will tip 30 minutes after No. 2 seed Tennessee and UT Martin complete their game which is set to tip at 3:10 p.m. Both games can be seen on ESPN2.
All-Session tickets for the NCAA First and Second Rounds are currently on sale and can be purchased through the DePaul Athletics Ticket office (773) 325-SLAM (7526) for $42 (adults) and $17 (students and youth) each. All session tickets are for both games on Saturday and Monday's second round game.
