CHICAGO - DePaul head women's basketball coach Doug Bruno announced on Wednesday that Centrese McGee has signed a tender of financial aid and will transfer to DePaul after spending two seasons at the University of Illinois.
"Centrese brings a strong, talented, and athletic skill set to an already potent DePaul backcourt," Bruno said of his 5-7 transfer.
"Offensively, Centrese is a penetrating guard who can play any of our three backcourt positions. She has the ability to break opposing defenses down off the bounce and consistently get the ball to the rim," Bruno added of the Calumet City, Ill. native.
"In addition to Centrese's slashing and defensive talents is her ability to rebound the basketball," Bruno said in closing of McGee who led all Big Ten freshmen with 5.3 rebounds in 2010-11.
McGee, who missed last season with an injury, will sit out the 2012-13 season under NCAA guidelines and will have two seasons of eligibility left.
As a freshman with the Illini, McGee started all 32 games and averaged 25.4 minutes per outing. She added 5.7 points, 53 assists and 39 steals.
In her two seasons at Thornton Fractional North High School (2008-10), McGee was named third-team All-State by the IBCA, special mention all-state by the Champaign News-Gazette, Chicago Tribune (Special Mention) and all-area by the Chicago Sun-Times, Northwest Times and Daily Southtown.
McGee played her first two seasons of high school basketball at Chicago Washington.
