DADE CITY, Fla. - Despite a windy and cloudy day, the DePaul golf team put together another solid outing in the second round of the USF Invitational with a team score of 296. In the toughest field DePaul has seen all season, the Blue Demons are settled into 16th place after two rounds.
Freshman James Lelliott led the way for DePaul with an even-par 72 in his second round of the invitational. Lelliott's team-high four birdies move him into a tie for 52nd after 36 holes.
Fellow first-year golfer Jonathan Hewett and senior Moritz Ackerhans finished their second circuit with rounds of one-over 73. Both golfers had 13 pars in their respective rounds, which were team-highs. Hewett is in a tie for 36th while Ackerhans moved into a tie for 61st.
Sharing a tie with his teammate for 61st, junior Jan Juelicher capped off his second round of the invitational with a six-over 78.
Adrian Halimi finished his second round with an 83. His two-round score of 158 places him in a tie for 86th.
After posting a team score of 589, DePaul finds itself in 16th place. Six teams, however, are within 10 strokes as the Blue Demons look to improve their position heading into tomorrow's final round.
Tournament hosts, No. 33 USF, scorched their home course shooting a 19-under 269 in the second round. The Bulls, who were in sixth entering today's round, jumped five spots and find themselves in the lead heading into the final round.
No. 20 Florida State and No. 7 Illinois are within striking distance of USF as they sit back nine and 10 strokes, respectively.
Illinois's Brian Campbell leads the invitational after posting a five-under 67 in the second round. USF's Chase Koepka and Purdue's Adam Schenk sit just four shots behind Campbell after two rounds.
The final round of the USF Invitational is scheduled for Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. (CT).
