Blue Demons Finish Fourth at FAU Championship

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - The DePaul golf team shot a season-low tournament score of 863 en route to a fourth place finish at the FAU Spring Break Championship on Sunday. After starting the day in fourth, the Blue Demons shot a final round score of 285 to hold its place in the standings in the 15-team field.
Freshman James Lelliott continued to carry the Blue Demons and finished the tournament with a one-under 70. His three-round score of 212 was a career-best and placed him in a tie for seventh. Lelliott's top-10 finish was the second of his young career and the best this season.
Having kept pace with Lelliott all tournament, fellow freshman Jonathan Hewett finished just four strokes behind and finished in 15th. Hewett nailed four birdies and 10 pars to give him his second-best tournament score of the year.
Sophomore Adrian Halimi joined Lelliott and Hewett as the only Blue Demons to finish in the top-20. Halimi placed in a tie for 17th after completing his third circuit of the course with a two-over 73. His tournament score of 218 and 17th place finish marked season-bests.
Senior Moritz Ackerhans completed his final tour of the course with a one-under 70, tying Lelliott for the team-best round of the day. Ackerhans finished in a tie for 22nd with a tournament score of 220.
Rounding out DePaul's lineup, junior Jan Juelicher had an up-and-down round of 75. He nailed three birdies and 10 pars but squandered two double bogeys in the final round. Juelicher finished with a three-round score of 222, finishing in a tie for 31st.
Having moved up to fourth after yesterday's second round, their final round of 285 held the Blue Demons in the same position, protecting a rally from Jacksonville State. No. 6 UCF claimed the team championship with a score of 839. Georgia Southern finished just six shots back to claim second place.
UCF's Ricardo Gouveia earned individual accolades, having been in the lead the whole tournament. His tournament-low score of 203 held off his teammate Greg Eason, who finished just two strokes behind to claim runner-up.
Competing as an individual, freshman Jonathan Goldstein topped his career-low first round of 74 with an even-par 71 in Sunday's final round. Goldstein's score of 220 marked a career-low and placed him in a tie for 22nd.
The Blue Demons return to action Monday, Apr. 7 when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark. for the Red Wolf Intercollegiate. This two-day, 54-hole event is held at the RidgePointe Country Club.
