Men's Tennis Loses 5-2 Match At Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The DePaul men's tennis team fell to No. 54 Purdue, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue Demons fell to 2-9 with the loss, while Purdue improved to 6-1.
DePaul started the match up 1-0 after taking the doubles point from the Boilermakers. Filip Dzanko and David Vieyra took care of business in the No. 1 match with an 8-3 victory over Aaron Dujovne and Diego Acosta before Purdue responded with a win in the No. 3 slot to level things up. But at No. 2 doubles, Kyle Johnson and Sten Leusink came through for the Blue Demons by outlasting Szymon Tatarczyk and Ricky Medinilla, 8-7, giving their team the coveted doubles point to begin the match.
In singles play, Purdue grabbed its first lead of the day, 2-1, thanks to two straight victories in the No. 5 and No. 4 matches. Acosta defeated Joshua Schramm, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 5 slot before Dujovne topped Paul John, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 4 position.
Then, Purdue moved ahead of the Blue Demons, 3-1, when Mark Kovacs beat Vieyra (6-4, 6-4) in No. 3 singles. Kovacs' victory brought the Boilermakers within one point of sealing the match, but Dzanko kept the Blue Demons alive, defeating Medinilla, 6-1, 7-5, in the No. 1 slot just moments later. At the time, DePaul trailed Purdue, 3-2.
However, Mateus Silva answered Dzanko's win by clinching the match at No. 6 singles, defeating Kyle Johnson, 7-5, 6-2. Sten Leusink fell to Tatarczyk in No. 2 singles to conclude the match.
DePaul next hits the court on Friday (March 8), when it opens up a four-match homestand in Chicago
