DePaul Falls at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Despite 18 points from Megan Podkowa, the DePaul women's basketball team dropped a 107-87 game at Seton Hall on Sunday at Walsh Gymnasium. The loss snapped DePaul's four-game winning streak and the Blue Demons fall to 13-6 and are 5-2 in BIG EAST Conference games. Seton Hall has won its last four games and improves to 17-2 and is 6-1 in league games.
Podkowa led five Blue Demons in double-figures as DePaul mounted a balanced attack from the floor. Chanise Jenkins scored 14 and Mart'e Grays came off the bench to score 13. Jessica January, who fouled out with just over five minutes to play, scored 12 and Brittany Hrynko added 11.
Podkowa paced DePaul with seven rebounds and Grays grabbed six.
Tabatha Richardson-Smith led the floor with 35 points. Ka-Deidre Simmons added 28 and Daisha Simmons finished with 22. No other Seton Hall player scored more than eight points.
The pace was set from the opening tip as the BIG EAST's top two offenses went at each other from the beginning.
The first half was highlighted with 42 made baskets which included 17 3-pointers in an exciting back-and-fourth opening 20 minutes.
DePaul jumped out to an early 22-15 advantage behind five early 3-pointers.
Seton Hall answered DePaul's intensity and tied the game at 22 (12:40) before a 9-2 run by the Blue Demons put DePaul back up by seven with just over 10 minutes to play in the opening stanza.
The Pirates took their first lead of the game 41-38 on a Ka-Deidre Simmons 3-pointer.
Seton Hall went up by as many as eight (56-48) with 1:35 to play in the half; but 3-pointers by Centrese McGee and Grays pulled the Blue Demons within three - 57-54 at the half.
After combing to shoot 53.2 percent in the first half, the teams cooled off from the field, but the fanatic pace continued.
The Blue Demons shot just 28 percent in the second half and connect just 4-of-17 from downtown.
DePaul cut the Seton Hall lead to one - 63-62 - with 14:56 to play but the Pirates answered and went on a defining 21-6 run and led 84-68 with 7:39 to play.
The Blue Demons got within 14, but the deficit was too big to make up.

Notes: Seton Hall's 107 total points and 57 first-half points are the most by a DePaul opponent this season… most points DePaul has made 10 or more 3-pointers in four of its last five games and in 11 games this season… DePaul was outrebounded 53-34, its largest rebounding deficit of the year…Seton Hall snapped a 10-game series winning streak with DePaul… DePaul still leads the series 10-2 and are now 5-1 in games played at Walsh Gymnasium.
