No. 25/24 DePaul Falls in Overtime at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Despite 29 points from Brittany Hrynko the No. 25/24 DePaul women's basketball team fell at Villanova 79-76 on Friday at The Pavilion in BIG EAST Conference action.
DePaul (9-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) led for the majority of the game, but an Emily Leer layup with three seconds left in regulation would tie the game at 74 and ultimately send it into overtime.
As time was about to expire in regulation, Hrynko heaved a three-quarters-court shot to win the game, but it would bounce twice on the rim before falling to the floor and force the Blue Demons to play their third overtime of the year.
In overtime, the Blue Demons were 0-for-12 from the field and scored just two points - both coming at the free line.
Prior to the start of overtime, the Blue Demons were 31-of-64 (48 percent) from the field and had shot 50 percent in the second half.
Megan Podkowa (15), Chanise Jenkins (13), and Jessica January (11) joined Hrynko in double-figures for DePaul.
January paced the Blue Demons on the glass and recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both Hrynko and Jenkins also grabbed eight rebounds.
Villanova (6-7, 1-1 BIG EAST) was led by Caroline Coyer's career-high 23 points. Leer paced the Wildcats with 25 points and Alex Louin added 16 off the bench.
DePaul started the game by making 6-of-8 from the field with Podkowa and Hrynko combing for 11 of the Blue Demons first 13 points.
Down 16-15 with just under 12 minutes to play in the half, DePaul went on a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes to go ahead 32-18. During DePaul's offensive output, Podkowa scored six of her 15 first half points.
The Blue Demons went to the locker room up 37-30 and outscored the Wildcats 20-10 in the paint and held a 22-17 rebounding advantage.
Villanova closed the gap in the second half and pulled within one, 43-42 on a pair of Taylor Holeman free throws with 14:51 to play.
After trading baskets, Villanova tied the game at 63 and then again with three seconds left to send the game to overtime.
The Blue Demons finish their East Coast roadtrip at Georgetown on Sunday. DePaul and the Hoyas tip at 5 p.m. at McDonough Arena.
