Hrynko Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

CHICAGO - After averaging 24.5 points and leading the DePaul women's basketball team to a 2-0 week, senior guard Brittany Hrynko was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week it was announced by the league on Monday.
Playing just 49 minutes over the weekend, Hrynko led DePaul in scoring in its wins over Creighton (96-71) and Providence (90-42). The Philadelphia native scored 27 against the Bluejays and added 22 versus the Friars.
Hrynko was 18-of-35 (.514) from the field which included six 3-pointers. She was also perfect from the charity stripe - hitting all five attempts against Creighton and both against Providence.
Against the Friars, Hrynko flirted with a triple-double. The guard had nine assists and tied a career-high and a DePaul McGrath-Phillips Arena record with eight steals.
For the week, Hrynko averaged 6.0 assists, 5.0 steals, 2.5 rebounds and boasted a 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. Her back-to-back 20-point performances mark Hrynko's sixth and seventh 20-plus point outings of the season.
Against BIG EAST foes, Hrynko leads the league in scoring (22.6), steals (3.2), and 3-point field goals made (3.0). She also ranks second in assists (5.1), fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio, ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.386), 12th in field goal percentage (.466), 15th in free throw percentage (.667).
On the season, Hrynko is averaging 20.0 points, 5.3 assists, 2.9 steals and 2.2 3-pointers per game.
This is Hrynko's fourth career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor and her third of the season. She was also named the conference's Player of the Week on Dec. 8, 2014 and Jan. 5.
Georgetown's Dorothy Adomako was named the league's Freshman of the Week. Creighton's Alexis Akin-Otiko, Villanova's Caroline Coyer, St. John's Aliyyah Handford, Seton Hall's Daisha Simmons and Butler's Ijeoma Uchendu were all named to the league's Honor Roll.
DePaul returns to McGrath-Phillips Arena next weekend for BIG EAST contests with Georgetown (Jan. 30) and Villanova (Feb. 1). Both games next weekend will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
