Track and Field Completes Day at Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In the second meet of the indoor season, DePaul track and field recorded top-five finishes over multiple events in the Hoosier Open Friday.
Freshman Ariel Davis set a school record last week and responded by making the final in the 60m hurdles Friday night. Davis earned her spot with a time of 8.88 in the prelims and repeated the same time in the final to finish fourth.
Shayna Nwokenkwo enjoyed the tough field in the 60-meter dash and hit a new personal record in the event. After taking second in her heat and qualifying for the final, Nwokenkwo grabbed eighth place with a time of 7.72.
Gabrielle Howard produced two top-10 finishes in the long jump and triple jump events. Howard set a new personal record in the long jump with a mark of 5.52 meters, earning her fifth. She improved on her distance from last week and reached 11.58 meters in the triple jump for seventh.
Corinne Franz had the top finish among DePaul throwers in the women's weight throw. Franz threw a distance of 14.42 meters for fourth.
Jarvis Hill was the top finisher in his section of the 500m event with a PR time of 1:05.35. Hill placed eighth among the field of 14 runners.
Scott Arsenault and Brian Mada secured spots on the podium in their respective events. Arsenault registered a time of 2:29.26 in the 1,000m run, his first race in the event of the year, and came in third, less than two seconds behind the winner. Mada reached a distance of 14.72 meters in the triple jump to earn third. Friday was Mada's first collegiate meet as a Blue Demon.
In the men's 300m, Chaz Bottoms secured a top-five finish with a time of 35.55 in the event. Bottoms placed third in his section and fifth overall.
Friday night closes out 2015 for the DePaul track and field team. The Blue Demons return to competition on January 15, 2016 for the GVSU Eubanks Open.
