STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford led from the start of game and knocked off DePaul, 79-60, at Maples Pavilion on Tuesday. Aaron Simpson led three players in double-figures with 16 points as the Blue Demons dropped their second straight game.
The Blue Demons made three three's over the first seven minutes, but added only one other field goal in that span. Billy Garrett Jr.'s three-pointer made the score 19-11 with 13:16 left in the first half.
Stanford (5-3) took advantage of a six-minute stretch that saw DePaul score just three points. A dunk by Rashaun Stimage moved the Blue Demons to within six, but they would only get a Peter Ryckbosch free throw and a jumper by Myke Henry over that six-minute span while Stanford totaled 13 points.
The Cardinal led by as many as 18 points late in the first half and took a 39-24 lead into intermission.
DePaul (5-5) whittled away the deficit and pulled to within 10 on a Garrett layup just under six minutes into the second half. However, that would be as close as the Blue Demons would get over the rest of the evening. Stanford answered with seven straight points over the next two-plus minutes as a bucket by Reid Travis pushed the lead to 54-37 with 11:57 left on the clock.
Simpson made four three-pointers and added three rebounds and two assists to his team-high 16 points. Garrett added 15 points and five assists while Henry chipped in 13 points and six rebounds.
Marcus Allen led Stanford with 17 points and Rosco Allen added 14.
DePaul returns to Allstate Arena on Saturday afternoon for just its second game of the season on Ray and Marge Meyer Court. The Blue Demons host Northwestern at 1 p.m. on FS1 and WYLL 1160 AM.
