HOUSTON - The DePaul softball team dropped the finale of the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational on Sunday morning to McNeese State, 13-3. The Blue Demons (3-7) lost their third game in a row to close out the three-day road trip to Texas.
McNeese State (7-3) produced run-scoring doubles in the first and second innings to open the contest. The Cowgirls continued their power in the third and fourth innings by blasting a pair of two-run home runs to gain a 6-0 advantage.
Over that stretch, DePaul was held to just one hit - a Morgan Maize single in the first frame.
The road team pushed across two more runs to go up 8-0 entering the home half of the fifth inning. The Blue Demons got a RBI double from Ali Lenti to finally get on the board.
McNeese State, however, responded with its biggest inning of the contest by scoring five runs on four hits in what was the Cowgirls biggest lead of the game, 13-1.
Mary Connolly drilled her fourth home run of the season in what was a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth, but DePaul could not surge back into the game and fell, 13-3.
The Blue Demons head back down to Texas next weekend for the Arlington Invitational, Feb. 20-22.
