NEW YORK -- The BIG EAST Conference has named DePaul freshman Alex Galoustian its Men's Tennis Player of the Week after the first-year put together a 4-0 weekend against No. 51 Purdue and Green Bay.
Galoustian is 9-0 in singles matches and 7-2 in dual play this spring. The Player of the Week honor marks the first of his collegiate career.
In DePaul's 5-2 upset victory over the 51st-ranked Boilermakers last Friday, Galoustian defeated Mateus Silva, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles and earned a doubles win with Nathan de Veer in the No. 3 slot over Lucas Dages and Renen Hanayama, 6-4.
The Blue Demons dropped a 5-2 decision to Green Bay on Sunday, but Galoustian was impressive again in the defeat. The Glencoe, Ill., native beat Florian Kraenzler, 7-5, 7-6 (4), at No. 4 singles and once again paired with de Veer to win at No. 3 doubles (6-4 over Michael Tebon and Joey Leto).
Galoustian and the Blue Demons are off until Feb. 27, when they face BIG EAST rival Georgetown in Washington, D.C.
