ARLINGTON, Texas - The DePaul softball team brought its bats to the park in a 10-2 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday evening at the Arlington Invitational.
Playing in their second game of the day, the Blue Demons (6-8) put together an efficient day at the plate scoring 10 runs on 10 hits, including three extra-base hits.
DePaul wasted no time as it scored in the bottom of the first from a Marsha' Pendilton solo home run.
The Blue Demons put the game out of reach in the second as they scored six runs on four hits and took advantage of three Panther errors. A two-RBI hit from Dylan Christensen highlighted the action before Nicole Pihl stepped up to the plate with two on and two out.
Pihl launched her second home run of the day - and third of the tournament - plating three DePaul players and giving the Blue Demons a 7-0 lead.
Prairie View A&M (0-7) put one run on the board in the top of the third, before the Blue Demons responded by pasting three more to the score line. Two runs came on fielder's choices while the third run came on a wild pitch.
The Panthers broke up the potential no-hit bid by the DePaul pitching staff in the fourth on back-to-back doubles to plate another run and bring the score to 10-2.
Those were the only hits Prairie View A&M could muster as Mary Connolly and Megan Leyva kept the Panthers off the board in the fifth to complete the game by run rule.
Christensen led the offense with a 2-for-2 outing at the dish, including a pair of RBIs.
On the mound, Connolly got the win after hurling the first three innings of no-hit ball. Leyva came in and held the Panthers to two hits in two innings while striking out four.
DePaul closes out the Arlington Invitational with a rematch against Texas Tech on Sunday at 8 a.m. The Blue Demons dropped a 9-1 decision against the Red Raiders on Friday.
