GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The men's golf team continued its strong start to the Spring season with a team score of 290 (+2) in the first round of the Neville Kovacs Group Intercollegiate. The two-over team total puts the Blue Demons in third among the 17 schools competing at Palm Valley GC.
Utah Valley and Missouri both finished the first round under par with Utah Valley leading the field with an eight-under score of 280. Missouri is five shots back with a team total of 285 (-3) followed by DePaul in third at 290 (+2) and Connecticut in fourth place at 291 (+3).
Bobby Thomas leads the DePaul contingent through 18 holes after shooting a one-under 71 on Sunday. He is among eight players that played at one under and is tied for ninth place. Adrian Halimi is in a four-way tie for 17th place after shooting a 72 (E) in the first round.
James Lelliott is a shot behind Halimi and in a group in 21st place following his opening round of 73 (+1) while Freddy Thomas is tied for 32nd following his two-over round of 74. Jonathan Hewett started the event with a 76 (+4) on Monday and Jan Juelicher turned in an 80 (+8) while playing as an individual. Hewett is tied for 49th place and Juelicher is tied for 84th entering Monday's second round.
The Blue Demons start the second round on Monday at 8:20 a.m. MT with DePaul players paired with Utah Valley, Missouri and Connecticut.
