NEW YORK - Coming off of the best weekend of her career, DePaul softball's Nicole Pihl was tabbed as the BIG EAST Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
In four games at the Arlington Invitational, Pihl hit .583 with seven hits and 10 RBI. The sophomore also recorded 21 putouts in the two-day tournament.
Pihl found a power surge in Texas as the Marseilles, Ill. native went deep a team-best three times. No hit was bigger than the grand slam Pihl smacked to power DePaul to a 7-4 come-from-behind victory over host UT Arlington on Saturday. The sophomore slugger had a career-high five RBI in that game alone.
Pihl's other two long balls came in wins against Missouri-Kansas City and Prairie View A&M. The second-year standout laced a two-run shot against the Kangaroos and a three-run blast versus the Panthers.
The Blue Demons get back on the diamond this weekend, Feb. 27-March 1 when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Alexis Park Resort Classic. The event, hosted by UNLV, features a four-game slate over three days.
