LAS VEGAS - Despite leading for the first three innings, the DePaul softball team surrendered seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to drop a 12-4 decision to UNLV on Friday evening.
The Blue Demons (6-9) got on the board first with four runs in the top of the second inning. Marsha' Pendilton slugged a solo shot - her third of the season - to open the scoring. Singles by Mary Connolly and Dylan Christensen plated three more runs and gave DePaul a 4-0 lead.
UNLV (8-8) scored all of its runs across the next three innings. The Rebels put two on the score line in the third, followed by a seven-run outburst in the fourth on only four hits.
The home team then held DePaul without a run in the fifth and came to the dish looking for more. UNLV got just that when it scored three runs from a wild pitch and a home run over centerfield to end the game by run rule.
The Blue Demons tallied nine hits as a club and were led by Ali Lenti and Christensen with two each.
DePaul also was flawless on the field as the team did not commit an error for the third time this season.
Connolly earned the start on the mound and went four innings, striking out three.
DePaul returns to the diamond tomorrow when it faces New Mexico State at 1:15 p.m., followed by a duel with Idaho State at 5:15 p.m.
