
DePaul Cruises by Butler on the Road

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The DePaul women's basketball team won its fifth straight game with an 83-65 victory over Butler on Friday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. DePaul improves to 18-6 and are 10-2 in BIG EAST Conference games. Butler has dropped its last two games and falls to 12-11 and is 8-4 in league games.
DePaul led from the opening tip and used a balanced attack as Brooke Schulte came off the bench to lead five in double figures with a career-high 18 points. Chanise Jenkins scored 17 and Jessica January finished with 15 points. Brittany Hrynko recorded 14 and Megan Podkowa finished with 12 points.
DePaul knocked down 14 3-pointers. Jenkins led DePaul's assault from behind the arc and tied a season-high with four triples.
Hrynko was credited with three 3-pointers in the game is now seventh in BIG EAST record book. The senior passed Maya Moore (Connecticut) and Ann Strother (Connecticut), and now has 139 triples in league play.
A signature of DePaul's offense is its ability to find the open woman. The Blue Demons finshed with 18 assists. Hrynko and January each dished out five assists while Podkowa finished with four assists which is one off her career high.
Butler was led by Loryn Goodwin's 18 points and 9 rebounds.
With the Blue Demons leading 9-8 with 13:36 to play in the half, DePaul went on a 7-0 run which was fueled by five points from Schulte.
DePaul flirted with a double-digit lead several times, but the Bulldogs always seemed to answer on the other end. A January 3-pointer pushed DePaul's lead to 30-18 (5:19) and the Blue Demons' advantage did not dip below 12 points the rest of the way.
The Blue Demons went to the locker room up 42-21 behind 10 points from January. Jenkins added nine points - all from behind the arc. Schulte also had nine points in the opening stanza.
DePaul took its largest lead of the game - 58-30 - when Hrynko converted the 3-point play with 12:45 to play.
The Blue Demons return to the court on Sunday at Xavier. The BIG EAST clash tips at 2 p.m. (ET) at the Cintas Center.
