Blue Demons Fall in Easton Tournament Finale to Nebraska

FULLERTON, Calif. - In its second game of the day and fourth of the weekend, the DePaul softball team dropped a 13-2 decision to Nebraska to close the Easton Tournament on Saturday.
The Blue Demons (7-15) were limited to just two runs for the fourth time this season.
Angela Scalzitti and Megan Leyva each chipped in with a pair of hits to lead the offense at the dish.
Nebraska (12-11) climbed to a big lead following a six-run second inning on seven hits with four of those runs came with two outs in the frame.
Sabrina Kuchta, who earned her first career start, got DePaul on the board with a RBI single that scored Nicole Pihl in the home half of the second. Ali Lenti laced in another run with a two-out single to bring the margin down to four at 6-2.
The Huskers used another big inning - this time, a seven-run frame - in the fourth to create a large cushion at 13-2. The road team plated all seven runners on six hits in the stanza.
DePaul was unable to muster a comeback and was held without a run in the fourth and fifth innings to complete the game by run rule.
Leyva was tagged with the loss after giving up 13 runs in 4.2 innings of work in the Easton Tournament finale.

Notes: This was the 11th meeting between the programs all-time and first since 2007... DePaul holds a 7-4 edge in the series... after Nebraska put up seven runs in the fourth, the Blue Demons are being outscored 34-6 in that frame this season... DePaul tied season-highs in runs allowed (13) and doubles allowed (five)... Brittany Boesel totaled a tournament-best three assists... Angela Scalzitti notched her fifth multi-hit game of 2015, which ties for second on the team (Connolly, Pihl)... Sabrina Kuchta earned her first career start behind the plate...
