CHICAGO - For the 13th straight year, the DePaul women's basketball team is heading to the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Demons were chosen as a No. 9 seed and are scheduled to face No. 8 Minnesota on Friday, March 20 at Notre Dame's Purcell Pavilion.
Notre Dame is the No. 1 seed in the Oklahoma City, region and will play No. 16 Montana on Friday. The winners of Friday's first round games play on Saturday.
DePaul and Minnesota's first-round game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. (CT) start followed by the Notre Dame-Montana matchup. Both games will air on ESPN2.
DePaul (26-7) is making its 20th NCAA Tournament with its first appearance coming in 1990. The Blue Demons earned the BIG EAST's automatic bid after capturing the league's tournament title last week.
DePaul is 12-19 all-time in NCAA games and reached the Sweet 16 in 2014, 2011 and in 2006. The Blue Demons have reached the second round nine times, including in three of the last four seasons.
Minnesota (23-9) reached the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament this season. The Golden Gophers went 11-7 in the Big Ten this season and are led by Amanda Zahui B. Zahui B. is averaging 18.8 points, 12.6 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game.
The Blue Demons and Golden Gophers are meeting for just the second time ever. The first meeting was an 82-64 win for Minnesota on Nov. 26, 1982 at the Dial Classic in Minneapolis.
The Blue Demons are one of just seven programs to appear in each of the last 13 NCAA Tournaments. DePaul is joined in this elite category by Connecticut, Duke, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Stanford and Tennessee.
