CHICAGO -- DePaul's potent offense could not get untracked Saturday in the opener of a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader at Cacciatore Stadium.
The Blue Demons had three hits in a 2-0 loss to Creighton to open a three-game weekend series.
Creighton (19-13, 4-7 in the BIG EAST) scored the game's only runs in the top of the second inning. Allie Reinhart led off with a single off DePaul ace Mary Connolly and Blake Ringle (3-for-3) followed with a two-run home run to center field.
After that, Connolly (10-11) pitched five shutout innings while scattering four hits. The senior right-hander finished with a season-high seven strikeouts.
Ali Lenti (2-for-2) drilled a two-out single to right in the third inning for DePaul's first hit. She led off the sixth inning with another single to right and Morgan Maize followed with a single to left---extending her hitting streak to 14 games.
But the promising rally ended when Connolly flied out to right field and Nicole Pihl and Dylan Christensen were retired on infield popups.
Winning pitcher Sydnee Eck fired a three-hitter and improved to 8-5 on the season.
DePaul dropped to 16-20, 7-2 and went for the split in game two with Connolly back in the pitching circle.
