CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Three Blue Demons posted individual victories for the DePaul track and field team on Saturday at the Illinois Twilight, capturing the women's 200, women's javelin throw and men's shot put competitions.
The meet was DePaul's fifth of the outdoor season.
"It was a good opportunity to come together as a team and have contributions from all of the different event groups that we field," said head coach Dave Dopek. "Overall I felt that we performed well as a team."
Matt Babicz set a new facility record in his shot put win, registering a best throw of 19.07 meters. Bailey Dell's throw of 46.74 meters in the javelin was a personal record that won the event and Ayesha Ewing took the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.63 meters.
Other strong finishes were posted by Tayler Whittler, who grabbed second in the 100 with a time of 12.03 seconds and fourth in the 200 (24.79). Courtney Tedeschi (11:29.69) finished second in the steeplechase and Simone Carr logged a time of 56.35 seconds to place third in the 400-meter dash. MaShayla Kirksy was third in the long jump (5.51m) and Gabrielle Howard (11.64m) placed third in the triple jump.
On the men's side Adam Kovacs (61.58m) placed second in the javelin and Babicz posted a throw of 50.48 meters to take second in the discus. Sebastian Feyersinger grabbed second in the 400 with a time of 48.15 seconds. Finally the men's 4x400 relay team of Feyersinger, Alex Amaya, Jarvis Hill and Chaz Bottoms crossed the finish line in 3:16.07 to take third in the 4x400-meter relay.
"There were many great season-bests and personal records and a good number of marks improved our positions within the BIG EAST ranks," Dopek said. "Of course there is much work to be done and we need to generate momentum so that we are performing well and feeling great in the weeks buidling up to the outdoor conference championships. I feel we are back on pace and we just need to keep pushing all the way through the rapidly-approaching championship season."
Next up for DePaul are the Drake Relays on April 24-26.
