LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- DePaul softball senior Mary Connolly was named to the NFCA Great Lakes All-Region First Team following her outstanding play and contributions to the team this season. Connolly has been tabbed All-Region for the third time in her career.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2015 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
Connolly was tabbed as a first team selection at the designated player position of which she made a majority of her starts during the 2015 campaign.
Already recognized as an All-BIG EAST performer, Connolly paced the Blue Demon offense with a .383 batting average, .870 slugging percentage and .548 on-base percentage. Her slugging mark set a single-season program record, eclipsing Kelly Kavanaugh's clip of .785 in 1990.
As a senior, Connolly leaves Lincoln Park with her name scattered all over the record book. Connolly capped her career second in program history with 44 homers, third in slugging percentage (.633), fourth in career RBI (164) and fifth in total bases (385) and walks drawn (97).
The Winfield, Ill. native also tied the mark for home runs hit in a season with 16 blasts this year. Her home run total ranked second in the BIG EAST and guided the 2015 squad to a program-best 58 long balls and a .498 slugging percentage this campaign.
