Mary Connolly Named Capital One Academic All-District

CHICAGO -- The awards keep on coming for DePaul softball's Mary Connolly as she was tabbed to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team on Thursday. The honor recognizes outstanding play both on the field and in the classroom.
With the selection, the senior captain gives the DePaul softball program its third honoree since 2011. The last Blue Demon to be named to the all-academic team was Kirsten Verdun last season.
The Winfield, Ill. native touts a 3.35 GPA as Public Relations and Advertising major with a minor concentration in Sociology.
For the season, Connolly holds a batting average of .386 with 48 RBI, 16 home runs and six doubles. The senior also boasts a slugging percentage of .877 and a .542 on-base percentage.
On the mound, Connolly has won 15 games in the 2015 campaign with 164 innings of work and 90 strikeouts.
For her play on the field, the senior was tabbed All-BIG EAST as a second team selection.
The Blue Demons open postseason play at the BIG EAST Championship this weekend with a 1 p.m. showdown against Seton Hall. The semifinal is set to take place at the Ballpark in Rosemont and will be aired on FOX Sports 2.
