Golf Takes Second at Winter Intercollegiate

BEAUMONT, Calif. - Led by Freddy Thomas, the DePaul golf team finished in second place at the UC Riverside Winter Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Oak Valley Golf Club. The Blue Demons had started the day in fourth place, but solid play and key putts moved DePaul into second place in its first tournament of the spring.
Freddy Thomas tied for third place in the individual standings. The sophomore fired a 77 (+5) on Tuesday and finished seven-over (223) for the tournament. Freddy Thomas recorded DePaul's low-round of the tournament on Monday when he carded a 71 (-2) in the opening round.
The third place result is Freddy Thomas' fourth top-five finish in his career and second this season. The sophomore, took home medalist honors at the John Dallio Memorial in the Fall. He also has seven, top 10 finishes under his belt.
Adrian Halimi recorded his first top-10 finish of the season and just third of his career with a seventh-place result. The senior fired a 76 in Tuesday's final round to move up three spots on the leaderboard after registering a three-round total of 226 (+10).
James Lelliott tied for 19th after combining for a three-round total of 232 (+16). Jonathan Hewett finished in 26th and newcomer Charles Spencer-White followed in 27th.
Bobby Thomas, who was playing as an individual, tied for 51st.
DePaul breaks until February when it participates at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, Feb. 22-23 in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
