Blue Demons Finish Day One at the ITA Midwest Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Members of the DePaul men's tennis team wrapped up the first day of qualifying singles competition at the the ITA Midwest Regional on Thursday on the courts of the OSU Varsity Tennis Center and the Racquet Club of Columbus.
The Blue Demons' Nathan de Veer, Fran Tonejc and Christopher Casati competed in the qualifying singles bracket.
de Veer bested Alex Kim from Michigan State 6-3, 6-4 in the first round and Drew Dawson from Notre Dame 6-2, 6-2 in round two.
Up next, de Veer faces Bor Muzur from Northern Illinois in the third round. Winners of the third round advance to the main draw of the singles competition.
Christopher Casati won his first match against Kris Knof from Western Michigan 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, but fell to Darius MacKenzie of Wisconsin in the second round 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.
Fran Tonejc dropped his first match 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 to Greg Anderson from Marquette.
On Friday, the third round of qualifying singles and the first rounds of the main singles and doubles draw are set to take place.
In the main singles draw, Alex Galoustian is scheduled to face Runhao Hua from Michigan.
In doubles action, Galoustian and de Veer are set to take on Eric Marbach and Georg Lundqvist from Northern Illinois while Tonejc and Casati face Chad Kissell and Dave Bacalla from Valparaiso.
