CHICAGO - These Blue Demons made sure to celebrate Senior Day in a jubilant and historic fashion on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon.
DePaul secured its spot atop the BIG EAST standings with a record-setting 3-0 victory over Villanova. The Blue Demons' seventh win in a row set a program standard, surpassing the six-straight in 2014.
Appropriately enough, it was a senior who got everything going as Abby Reed scored on a header in the 24th minute after classmates Kelli Hubly and Ana Greik combined to set her up.
A fourth senior, Taylor Schissler, orchestrated the next two scores. In the 70th minute, Schissler's accurate right leg sent a free kick from the top of the box right in front of the net where Alexa Ben converted for the all-important insurance goal.
Schissler was at it again in the 79th minute, this time placing a ball in the middle of the goal mouth where Franny Cerny struck it into the back of the net.
DePaul improves to 8-4-2 and 5-0-0 in conference while Villanova drops to 3-10-0, 1-3-0.
The Blue Demon defense featuring Schissler, Hubly, Lucy Edwards, Elizabeth Endy and Avery Hay limited the Wildcats to four shots.
Coach Erin Chastain's side has a week to get ready for its next challenge, a BIG EAST showdown Saturday at St. John's.
