January Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

CHICAGO - DePaul junior Jessica January was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week of Monday. The Blue Demon junior averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 assists and 8.0 rebounds in DePaul's 1-1 week.
In DePaul's 77-71 win over St. John's the junior was one assist shy of her second triple-double of the year. January, who recorded a triple-double at Seton Hall on Jan. 5, tied a season-high with 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. The double-double was January's fifth of the season and third with points-rebounds. Her other two double-doubles came with double-digit assists.
Against Seton Hall, January scored 17 points while adding eight assists and six rebounds in 40 minutes of action.
For the week, January shot 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from the field and knocked down three triples. She also added four steals and boasted a 2.1 assist-turnover ratio.
The honor is January's second of the season while she has been named to the honor roll two other times.
Marquette's Allazia Blockton earned the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors.
DePaul (17-7, 9-2 BIG EAST) hits the road this weekend for games at Villanova and Georgetown. The Blue Demons and Wildcats tip at 10:30 a.m. (CT) in Philadelphia on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
