Blue Demons End on a High Note in Texas

San Marcos, Texas - The DePaul softball team ended its run at the CenturyLink Classic in San Marcos, Texas with a 1-0 victory against Northwestern State.
Cherelle Chambers scored the winning run for the Blue Demons in the bottom of the sixth after Naomi Tellez hit a single down right field for the senior to put DePaul on the board.
After the sixth, Northwestern State had an opportunity in the top of the seventh, but the Blue Demons defense would stop the Lady Demons first three batters, including Morgan Maize pitching a strikeout.
Maize was in the circle pitching for the games entirety, claiming her second win of the season.
Tellez recorded the winning RBI with her first hit and at bat of the game. Dylan Christensen led the Blue Demons with two hits, while topping with Nicole Pihl for three at bats. Micah Fitzgerald finished with DePaul's best batting average of the game, recording a .667.
DePaul ends the CenturyLink Classic with a 2-3 record and handing Northwestern State its first loss of the three-day competition.
It was the second meeting between the two teams at the Classic, the first being on Friday where the Lady Demons got the best of the Blue Demons with a score of 5-1. With DePaul's win, the series remains tied at 2-2 between the teams.
Up next for the Blue Demons is the Michele Smith Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. taking place Feb. 19-21.
