Blue Demons and Hoyas Prepare to Square Off in Chicago

CHICAGO- For the first time in history for both in both programs, the DePaul men's and women's tennis teams are set to take on the Georgetown Hoyas at the same time on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. The Hoyas come to Lincoln Park for a 2 p.m. start on the courts of the Lakeshore Sport & Fitness Center.
This is the Blue Demons first BIG EAST Conference action of the season.
The DePaul men (2-6) go into conference action after an away loss at then ranked No. 74 Wisconsin. Sten Leusink, Nathan de Veer and Jan-Willem Feilzer lead the team in single dual wins with three each. The last time the Hoyas and Blue Demons squared off was in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament in 2015. Leusink and Alex Galoustian collected wins, but Georgetown came out on top 4-3.
The Georgetown men (2-4) recently defeated Monmouth in a close 4-3 match. Peter Beatty, Bart Panarese and Ryan McElvenny all collected victories in their respective singles categories.
The No. 49 DePaul women (3-5) are fresh off a victory against No. 52 Illinois. Yuliya Shupenia, Patricia Lancranjan and Rebeca Mitrea lead the Blue Demons with on the singles end with three wins each for the dual campaign. The last time the Blue Demons and Hoyas competed against each other was in 2014, as DePaul took home a 7-0 sweep for its ninth straight win against the D.C. team. DePaul currently holds a 10-1 record over Georgetown.
The Georgetown women (1-1) take on the University of Chicago on Friday, Feb. 19 before heading to Lincoln Park for the Blue Demons. The Hoyas last win cam on Feb. 9 when the squad beat Towson 5-2.
This will be the men's fourth match at home and the women's second. The men hold a 1-2 record while the women hold a 1-0 record on the courts of the Lakeshore Sport & Fitness Center located at 1320 W Fullerton Ave. The men's win came against UIC on Jan. 22 and the women's against then ranked No. 44 Houston on Jan. 31.
