CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The DePaul softball team fell 18-0 to No. 3 Auburn in its final game of the day Saturday at the Michele Smith Invitational in Clearwater, Florida.
The Tigers (9-1) put up their 18 runs against the Blue Demons (2-7) in five innings.
AU started scoring quickly, collecting three runs in the first inning.
The Tigers would follow the second and third innings with seven runs a piece. In the second inning, AU registered three of its four home runs. Auburn's fourth homer came in the third when Madi Gipson knocked a two-run shot to left center.
Auburn scored its final run in the fourth inning.
The Tigers allowed DePaul two hits throughout the game's entirety. Micah Fitzgerald and Dylan Christensen registered the hits both in the fourth inning. Fitzgerald's was a single to the left side and Christensen's a single to center.
Fitzgerald holds DePaul's highest batting average of .385 with five hits in 13 at bats.
DePaul's Megan Leyva was in the circle for all five innings. Of the 18 runs the sophomore (0-3) allowed, 16 of them were earned.
Auburn's Lexi Davis registered her first win the year, recording six strikeouts out of the 17 batters she faced.
The Blue Demons are back tomorrow for their final game in Clearwater as they face No. 12/14 Tennessee at 10:15 a.m. Central time.
