Golf Finishes Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - DePaul sophomore Freddy Thomas fired a season best and tied a career mark with a three-under 69 in the final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Thomas finished tied for 38th with teammate James Lelliott.
Thomas' career day featured five birdies with three of those coming on the back nine. Thomas is just the second DePaul golfer to card a 69 this season. The sophomore also shot a 69 at the Red Wolves Intercollege last season. Thomas made the biggest move of the day on the leaderboard and climbed 22 spots.
Jonathan Hewett led the Blue Demons and tied for 33rd. The junior made par on Tuesday while he opened the tournament with rounds of 71 (-1) and 74 (+2).
Lelliott and Thomas finished one stroke behind Hewett and were in a group tied for 38th. The pair were two-over (218) for the tournament.
Charlie Spencer-White, who had led DePaul in the first two rounds, went five-over for a 77 and finished in a tie for 53rd.
Adrian Halimi also carded a 77 (+5) on Tuesday and tied for 86th place with teammate Kyle Vincze, who was playing as an individual.
DePaul moved up one spot in the team standings and finished tied for 11th with Utah Valley. The Blue Demons combined to shoot 873 (+9) - their second-best, three-round tournament score this season. DePaul finish ahead of BIG EAST rival St. John's (881) while Seton Hall finished in seventh (858).
Arkansas State took home the team title. Tanner Napier, also from Arkansas State, was the tournament's medalist and finished 18-under (198) for the tournament.
DePaul is back on the links Mar. 25-27 at the Slomin Autism Championship. This three-day tournament takes place at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla.
