Jenkins Nominated for Coaches All-America Team

ATLANTA - DePaul point guard Chanise Jenkins was selected Wednesday as an All-Region nominee for the 2016 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Team.
Jenkins, a senior who was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year, is one of 52 candidates nationwide. The WBCA selection committee will review the nominees and choose 10 players for the Coaches All-America Team.
The Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced April 2 during the NCAA Women's Final Four Super Saturday festivities at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees for each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
Jenkins, who has led the Blue Demons into the NCAA tournament Sweet 16, is one of 11 players from Region 4. She heads into the Saturday showdown against Oregon State leading her team with 14.6 points per game along with five assists.
DePaul has compiled a 27-8 record playing one of the most difficult schedules in the country. Jenkins has competed against 16 players who have been nominated for the All-America Team including Breanna Stewart, Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson of Connecticut and Brianna Turner, Lindsay Allen and Madison Cable of Notre Dame.
Jenkins will sqaure off on Saturday against fellow All-America nominees Ruth Hamblin and Jamie Weisner of Oregon State.
This is the fourth time the Blue Demons have advanced to the Sweet 16 including twice in the last three years. The team will depart for Dallas on Thursday and prepare for the 5:30 p.m. tip Saturday at American Airlines Center.
