South Alabama Defeats Men's Tennis

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The DePaul men's tennis team closed out its last match of the day at the HEB Tournament with a 4-3 loss to South Alabama Friday evening in Corpus Christi, Texas.
DePaul (3-10) finished its first day 0-2 after falling to Southern Miss earlier in the afternoon.
South Alabama (9-7) advances to play for fifth place in tournament with the win.
The Blue Demons finished the match with three singles victories. Sten Leusink recorded his second win in a row at No. 1 singles. The senior leads the team with a 2-0 singles record going into the final day of competition tomorrow.
South Alabama quickly established a lead after claiming the first two doubles matches. At No. 1, Kyle Johnson and Paul John fell 6-2 to Gerhard Gruindelingh and Olivier Gingras. Jan-Willem Feilzer and Alex Galoustian followed with a 6-4 loss at No. 2 to Tim Srkala and Juan Troglia. DePaul's first two defeats resulted in an unfinished 5-3 match at No. 3 for Leusink and Nathan de Veer as the two battled Tuki Jacobs and Pierre Noyon.
In singles play, de Veer was back at No. 4, but fell 6-1, 6-2 to Gingras. Johnson took on Troglia at No. 3 and lost 0-6, 7-5, 6-2. Feilzer notched DePaul's first singles win of the match at No. 5 with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Gruindelingh. Galoustian followed with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2 over Srkala. Leusink wrapped up the match with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Tuki at No. 1.
DePaul hits the courts in Corpus Christi one last time tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. CT. The Blue Demons take on the University of Texas- San Antonio for seventh place in the tournament.
