CHICAGO - The DePaul softball team is back at home this weekend to host BIG EAST opponent Georgetown for a three-game series at Cacciatore Stadium. The series begins with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, April 2 and wraps up on Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m. Central time.
DePaul (11-20, 3-0 BIG EAST) looks to extend its winning streak to five after finishing last week 5-1 overall. The Blue Demons started off their successful week with a victory over Saint Louis last Tuesday. DePaul followed with a 1-1 series finish against Eastern Illinois last Wednesday and a 3-0 sweep of Villanova last weekend.
As a result, Morgan Maize was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week while Dylan Christensen was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Maize was a force to be reckoned with against Villanova. The senior did not allow a Villanova earned run over 12 innings over the course of two games. Maize held the Wildcats to only four hits in the first game of the series. Maize finished last week 3-1 in the circle with 15 strikeouts over 25.0 innings for a 0.84 ERA.
Dylan Christensen led the Blue Demons at the plate, batting .667. The junior scored five runs and tallied four RBI. In DePaul's finale over Villanova, Christensen went 2-for-2 at the plate, which included her second home run of the season.
DePaul was supposed to play at Illinois State on Wednesday, but the game was cancelled due to weather.
Scouting Georgetown (6-21, 1-2 BIG EAST) - Georgetown comes to Chicago after falling 2-1 in a three-game series to BIG EAST preseason favorite, St. John's. Samantha Giovanniello joined Dylan Christensen on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after recording five RBI in the Hoyas one victory over St. John's. Giovanniello leads Georgetown with a .382 batting average and a team-best six home runs and 26 RBI.
Saturday at noon marks the 14th meeting between DePaul and Georgetown. Last year, the Blue Demons traveled to D.C. for a three-game series and left 2-1 overall. In the final game, DePaul won 14-1 in five innings. The Blue Demons hold an overall 12-1 series advantage over the Hoyas.
