DePaul Earns No. 3 Seed in BIG EAST Tournament

CHICAGO - The DePaul men's tennis team has earned the No. 3 seed for the 2016 BIG EAST Men's and Women's Championship presented by Jeep. The Blue Demons open play against No. 6 Butler Friday, Apr. 29 at 3 p.m. CT at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
The tournament on Thursday, Apr. 28 at 8 a.m. CT.
This is the third year in a row the Blue Demons (9-14, 4-1 BIG EAST) have earned the No. 3 seed in the eight-team field. Winners of the tournament earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
DePaul faced Butler (9-12, 0-3 BIG EAST) last on Apr. 17. The Blue Demons won the match 4-3. Sten Leusink clinched the match for DePaul with a 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-3 mark at No. 1 singles.
Leusink leads the team with 14 overall wins this season, including seven victories at the No. 1 spot for the dual campaign.
In doubles, the tandem of Jan-Willem Feilzer and Alex Galoustian boast a team-best 11-4 record, including a perfect 4-0 mark in conference action.
The Blue Demons enter the tournament with a one-match losing streak after falling 4-3 to No. 2 seed Marquette last weekend.
In the BIG EAST Tournament last year, DePaul fell 4-3 in the quarterfinal round to then seeded No. 6 Georgetown.
The winner of the DePaul/Butler matchup moves on to the semifinals Saturday, Apr. 30 and face the winner of Marquette/Creighton.
