CHICAGO - The DePaul track and field teams split time on Saturday between the Drake Relays and the Crusader Open. Despite cold temperatures and less than ideal conditions at the Drake Relays, the team broke a program record and student-athletes reached new personal records.
Another record fell as the men's distance medley relay team of Jeffrey Sattler, Mac Melto, Jeremy Lozano and Alex Campanella crossed the finish line with a time of 9:53.48. The relay team bested the 32-year old program record set by the team of Fox, Krawulski, Sloan and Webb and earned seventh out of 18 teams.
"The final day at Drake went well for our team," said head coach Dave Dopek. "Despite the weather, we had some quality performances."
Courtney Tedeschi hit a new personal record in the 3000m steeplechase at the Drake Relays when she crossed the finish line in 10:59.94. She placed 17th in the event and is 89th in the West region.
In the men's sprint medley relay, the Blue Demons recorded their highest finish for a relay team after taking fourth place. The squad of Chaz Bottoms, Sebastian Feyersinger, Jarvis Hill and Scott Arsenault finished at 3:25.23.
"All in all, I feel like we got the most out of the meet, considering the weather conditions," stated Dopek. "Now we have a quick turnaround before we head down to Champaign, Ill."
The Blue Demons went 1-2 in the men's 110m hurdles at the Crusader Open thanks to Kyle Decker and Evan Lowry. Decker recorded the top time at 15.25, followed closely behind by Lowry at 15.27. Decker and Lowry later placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400m hurdles.
Amani Hardrict claimed a top-three position in the women's 400m when she won her heat with a time of 1:01.24. She finished third overall with her mark.
Nora Smith made the podium for the 800m after finishing at 2:18.37. The senior placed third and was the second-best collegiate finisher.
The Blue Demons are down to their final meet before the BIG EAST Championships when they take part in the Illinois Open on Wednesday, May 4.
