Softball Takes Game One at Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. - DePaul softball defeated Creighton 7-3 in game one Saturday afternoon at Creighton Sports Complex.
DePaul (25-24, 14-3 BIG EAST) got on board in the first inning. After Dylan Christensen singled, Morgan Maize notched a two-run home run to put DePaul up 2-0.
Creighton (25-20, 7-9 BIG EAST) responded with three runs in the bottom of the first for its only lead of the game.
The Blue Demons tied the game the following inning. With Gena Lenti on third and Dylan Christensen on second, Maize doubled to score Lenti.
DePaul took the lead for good in the fourth thanks to another two-run homer courtesy of Dylan Christensen. With Micah Fitzgerald on base, the junior blasted her fourth homer of the season to put DePaul up 5-3.
Nicole Pihl continued DePaul's home run affair with a solo shot beyond the right field fence in the top of the fifth.
DePaul scored its final run in the sixth. With Fitzgerald on third, the junior came around to score an unearned run after a Creighton error.
Maize (18-14) pitched a complete game for DePaul. She allowed four hits and struck out seven.
Micaela Whitney (8-8) recorded the loss in the circle. She allowed nine hits and struck out eight.
The two teams meet again this afternoon at Creighton Sports Complex for game two.
