CHICAGO - Alexa Ben is back, and in a really big way.
The dangerous junior midfielder was her dynamic self on Thursday in leading DePaul to a 4-2 BIG EAST Conference victory over Creighton at Wish Field.
Fully recovered from a nagging injury that had plagued her in the early season, Ben scored twice to highlight a four-score first half as the Blue Demons won their fourth in a row while improving to 5-4-2, 2-0-0 in the league.
Taylor Schissler opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a rocket shot from beyond the top of the box off assists from Franny Cerny and Abby Reed.
Four minutes later, Abby Reed cashed in on a nice connection with Cerny and Kelli Hubly with a header into the left side of the Bluejay net.
Creighton (6-2-2, 1-1-0) got one back in the 23rd minute on Caeley Lordemann's header into the upper left off a free kick from Emily Roll.
Back came Ben with back-to-back goals in the 29th and 38th minutes. The first was a header into the right side off Schissler's free kick. Next came a shot into the lower right after a textbook cross from Reed.
Creighton's Lauren Sullivan closed out the scoring in the 43rd minute.
DePaul resumes its BIG EAST season on Sunday with a noon match at Seton Hall.
