CHICAGO - All systems are go as No. 21/20 DePaul boosted its winning streak to nine games Friday night at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Led by Brooke Schulte's 24 points and a career-high 20 points by Amarah Coleman, the Blue Demons knocked off Butler 100-69 for its best BIG EAST start since opening the 2010-11 season at 7-0. Jacqui Grant added 16 points, Tanita Allen 12 and Kelly Campbell had 11.
DePaul (15-4, 7-0) went on a 13-0 run early in the first quarter in shooting out to an immediate lead. Grant had six-straight points in that burst.
Schulte picked up the scoring baton after that and helped the Blue Demons build a 29-15 lead after one quarter. The home team shot nearly 63 percent in the first 10 minutes.
In the best of "DePaulBall" style, coach Doug Bruno's ball club was whipping the ball around, weaving in and out and side to side setting up open looks. It was some of the best passing of the season as the home team had 13 assists on its first 18 baskets.
Kelly Campbell drilled a pair of three-pointers and Schulte scored in securing a 48-23 lead late in the second quarter. Schulte scored again just before halftime and DePaul led 50-28 at the break. Coleman had 13 points, Schulte 12 and Grant 10 going into the third quarter.
Schulte couldn't miss in the third quarter, hitting six shots in a row to move her team in front 74-47. The Blue Demons headed into the fourth quarter with a 78-47 cushion.
Continuing to attack in the fourth quarter, Deja Cage hit a jumper and Claire McMahon buried a three for an 88-57 lead.
DePaul is right back at back at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Sunday for a 2 p.m. tipoff against Xavier.
