INDIANAPOLIS - No. 18/16 DePaul rolled to its sixth consecutive win on Sunday with a 92-62 BIG EAST victory over Butler in the legendary Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Leading the Blue Demons (22-5, 14-1) to their 16th win in the last 17 games was Brooke Schulte with 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Amarah Coleman added 18 points and freshman Chante Stonewall finished with a season-high 15 points.
Butler (5-20, 2-12) jumped out to a quick 14-8 lead after the opening tip before Schulte's six points sparked a 17-0 run to overtake the Bulldogs. Allen's specialty---hitting the last shot before the end of a period---worked again as her jumper gave DePaul a 27-16 lead after one quarter.
The Bulldogs scored two quick baskets at the outset of the second quarter, prompting Blue Demon coach Doug Bruno to call a timeout. His team responded by going on a game-defining 17-2 run for a 44-22 lead. Allen hit a pair from beyond the arc and Schulte finished the first half with 12 points and six rebounds.
DePaul led by more than 20 when Butler went on a run to come within 57-42 midway through the third quarter. Lauren Prochaska's three-pointer made it 60-42. Baskets by Coleman and Chante Stonewall increased the margin to 64-45.
Prochaska's three sent the Blue Demons into the fourth quarter with a 74-51 lead. Schulte had 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists after three quarters.
Back-to-back Stonewall baskets put DePaul ahead 86-56 midway through the fourth quarter. That gave the freshman a season-high 13 points.
DePaul has a week to prepare for a showdown next Sunday in Milwaukee against a talented Marquette team that gave the Blue Demons their only BIG EAST loss.
