Softball Defeats Bradley 11-2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - DePaul softball closed out its time at the Troy Cox Classic with an 11-2 victory over Bradley on Sunday afternoon at the New Mexico State Softball Complex. DePaul (4-6) finished with 11 runs, 12 hits and no errors, while Bradley (4-6) had two runs, six hits and an error in six innings.
Missy Zoch earned the win in the circle. Julie Kestas suffered the loss for Bradley.
Dylan Christensen paced DePaul's offense with two hits, three runs and a RBI. Two other Blue Demons registered two hits in the win.
Scoring started early for DePaul in the first inning. After leadoff batter Dylan Christensen was walked, Megan Leyva tripled to right center to score Christensen for the first run.
DePaul tallied two more runs in the top of the second inning. With one out, Micah Fitzgerald singled up the middle and advanced to third off a Dylan Christensen double. Fitzgerald scored right after off a sacrifice fly from Leyva. A RBI single from Jessica Cothern placed Dylan Christensen home for a 3-0 lead.
Kayla Landwehrmier scored DePaul's run in the third inning. With one out, the junior transfer singled and then proceeded to steal second and third, scoring on a Bradley throwing error.
The Blue Demons extended their lead 7-0 with three more runs in the top if the fourth. With one out and runners on first and second, Nicole Pihl hit a homer over the center field fence.
In the sixth inning, DePaul scored its final four runs all off of home runs. Dylan Christensen led off the inning with a solo home run to right field, her second of the season. Leyva then singled and Cothern doubled down the left field line to put them in the scoring path. After Celeste Franco hit a pop up, Erin Andris knocked a three-run homer to left field for an 11-0 lead. The homer marked Andris' first of her collegiate career.
Bradley got on board with its lone two runs in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs and a runner at first, Allison Apke notched a two-run homer. A fly out to left field from the Braves' next batter ended the game 11-2.
Zoch (2-2) pitched all six innings for DePaul. She registered seven strikeouts and a walk in the 25 batters she faced.
The Blue Demons have the next weekend of competition off before heading to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop Tournament March 3-5. There, they will face Cleveland State, Winthrop and Maryland Eastern Shore.
