Softball Defeats Dartmouth 6-2

LOS ANGELES -- DePaul softball won its first game at the Loyola Marymount Tournament 6-2 over Dartmouth on Friday afternoon at Smith Field.
Nicole Pihl led DePaul (12-8) with two hits, two RBI and a run. Dylan Christensen went 1-for-2 at the plate and added two runs in the victory.
Kennedy Garcia pitched all seven innings to earn her sixth win in the circle. She struck out and walked two in the 29 batters she faced.
Breanna Etheridge suffered the loss for Dartmouth (0-9-1).
The Blue Demons jumped to an early lead after scoring their first two runs in the bottom of the first. With two outs and Dylan Christensen on second, Pihl connected for a two-run homer. The home run marks Pihl's fifth of the season.
DePaul added its third run in the third inning. After Micah Fitzgerald hit a fly out to left field, Etheridge walked Dylan Christensen who then scored her second run of the game off a RBI double from Jessica Cothern.
The Blue Demons scored their final three runs in the fourth. With one out and pinch runner Ana Greik on second and Alysia Rodriguez on first, a Dartmouth error allowed Greik to score as Rodriguez advanced to third and Erin Andris second. Another Big Green error followed right after for Rodriguez to plate home. Andris scored the DePaul's final run off a sacrifice fly to center from Dylan Christensen.
Dartmouth proceeded to score a run in the top of the sixth and seventh inning. The final out of the game came with two Dartmouth runners on base and two outs. Lourlin Lara grounded out for the third out to give the Blue Demons their third win in a row.
DePaul returns to Smith Field at 4 p.m. CT to take on Sacramento State.
