CHICAGO - DePaul softball travels to Las Vegas this week for the annual Rebel Classic hosted by UNLV March 9-12 at Eller Media Stadium. DePaul is scheduled to play Thursday, March 9- Saturday, March 11 against New Mexico State, Portland State, Southern Illinois and UNLV.
The Blue Demons (9-6) open the tournament with their first night game of the season on Thursday at 8 p.m. Central time against New Mexico State. On Friday, DePaul will play UNLV at 3:30 p.m. and Portland State at 8 p.m. The squad finishes its time in Sin City with a game against Southern Illinois on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

DePaul enters the tournament on a six-game win streak. The Blue Demons notched a 5-0 record at the Winthrop Invitational last weekend, outscoring their opponents 31-8. Of DePaul's 31 runs, 10 of them were scored off of homers. The squad is currently ranked 16th in home runs per game among NCAA Division I schools. DePaul averages 1.20 a game.
As a result of the Winthrop Invitational, Missy Zoch was named the BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week as Dylan Christensen was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Zoch pitched three complete games to register a 0.67 ERA. She struck out 25 batters over the course of 21.0 innings, including a season best 11 against Winthrop on March 5.
Dylan Christensen went 7-for-17 at the plate to notch a .412 batting average for the weekend.
Scouting New Mexico State (4-10):
The Aggies last win came against the Blue Demons at their Troy Cox Classic on Feb. 17. New Mexico State defeated DePaul 8-1. Haydn Christensen scored DePaul's lone run of the game.
Kelsey Horton leads the team with a .432 batting average, registering 19 hits, eight runs and 11 RBI on the season.
DePaul leads the series 5-4.
Scouting UNLV (13-7):
The Rebels got the best of DePaul last year at the classic, defeating the Blue Demons 11-6. UNLV recently shutout DePaul's fellow BIG EAST Conference member, Creighton, in a midweek contest on Tuesday with a 4-0 mark.
Morgan Ettinger boasts 11 wins in the circle for the Rebels and holds a 2.12 ERA.
DePaul holds a 9-4 series advantage over UNLV.
Scouting Portland State (1-4):
Portland State recorded its first win of the season last weekend against Rhode Island. The Vikings welcome 11 freshmen to their 2017 team.
Marissa Bruno leads Portland State with a .351 batting average. Last weekend, she recorded three runs, two doubles, a triple and four RBI.
DePaul and Portland State have only met twice, the last being in 2009. The Blue Demons won both contests.
Scouting Southern Illinois (9-10):
The Salukis went 1-4 last weekend at the Coach B Classic in Carbondale, Ill. Susie Barasnki finished with a .692 average and tallied nine hits. She currently sits second on the team with an overall .339 batting average and leads the team with 16 runs.
DePaul holds a 5-1 series advantage over its fellow in-state foe.
