CHICAGO - DePaul women's soccer is set for a pair of home matches this week, hosting Providence in a 3:00 p.m. matinee on Thursday and Villanova on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. Senior Day celebration.Â
Senior Day
The women's soccer program has four graduating seniors -- Franny Cerny, Madeline Frick, Vanessa Nigg and Elizabeth Parrilli as well as redshirt junior Chelsea Henry. As Sunday marks their final regular season home match, there will be a celebration before first touch around 12:45 p.m. These four seniors have amassed a combined 191 starts, logged over 13,341 minutes, tallied 45 goals, 32 assists and 260 shots over their years at DePaul. They have qualified for the BIG EAST tournament for the last three years and are looking to make it a fourth consecutive year in the postseason.Â
Last Time Out
Following a late game-winner in the 87th minute by the Bulldogs, DePaul fell to 6-6-3 on the season with a 2-1 decision in favor of Butler. The Blue Demons got on the board early in the 38th minute when Mary Tierney sent in a cross to the box to Franny Cerny who headed it over the hands of the Bulldogs' goalkeeper Hannah Luedtke for a 1-0 lead. A foul in the box would allow Butler to tie things up at 1-1 in the 53rd. Both teams would play a energetic, back-and-forth game until the 87th minute game-winner by Katie Soderstrom. In goal, Mollie Eriksson would make five saves against the Bulldogs to help her team break a three overtime game streak (two double overtime game streak as well).Â
About Those Blue Demons (6-6-3, 2-3-1 BIG EAST)
DePaul sits tied for seventh place in the conference standings with Providence, making Thursday's game a decisive one. Captain Franny Cerny, who scored a goal in DePaul's 2-1 setback at Butler, now sits second in all-time goals in program history with 33, third in points with 81 and is tied for fifth in assists with 15 total, as the Blue Demons' regular season match count is down to three -- Providence, Villanova and St. Johns. Cerny has also surpassed last year's shot count of 55 by three with those three games remaining. Morgan Turner and Madeline Frick are right behind her with five and four goals, respectively. Avery Hay leads the squad in assists with three, while seven different players have two under their belt, Cerny, Turner and Frick included.Â
DePaul women's soccer is 2-3-1 in their last six BIG EAST outings, securing two wins against Seton Hall and Creighton and earning the draw against Marquette. The Blue Demons have amassed a home record of 4-2-1 with wins against non-conference opponents UMass Lowell, Illinois, Loyola-Chicago and BIG EAST foe Creighton.
The DePaul offense averages over 13 shots through 15 games, while goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson has tallied up 52 saves on the season and posts a goals against average of 1.04 with a save percentage of 0.765.Â

The Friars are tied with DePaul for seventh place in BIG EAST standings. Providence was shutout at Georgetown last weekend, 1-0, moving them to 2-3-1. Hannah McNulty, the two-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week this season, leads her team with 8 goals - tied with Franny for third most in the BIG EAST. Series Stuff

2017 Matchup
During the 2017 regular season, DePaul and Providence played to a scoreless draw. The Blue Demons last saw the Friars in the BIG EAST Championship quarterfinals as they battled to the full 110 minutes of play to earn a 1-1 tie against Providence, but were edged by the Friars on penalty kicks in a 4-1 tally. After a scoreless first half where DePaul outshot Providence 4-3, the Friars capitalized on a DePaul defensive error in the 78th minute to land the go-ahead goal. DePaul continued to fight, firing off nine shots in the second half of play. With 54 seconds left in regulation, a handball foul was committed by the Friars, setting up a free kick for the Blue Demons. Junior Madeline Frick lined up her attempt and sent a screamer into the upper right corner from 25 yards out, forcing overtime.
After two overtime periods, the match ended in a 1-1 tie that brought the match's outcome to be determined by penalty kicks. Providence's Katie Day had the first attempt and landed her shot to the lower right-hand corner of the frame. DePaul's Franny Cerny was next and her shot was blocked, giving the Friars a 1-0 edge. Kayla Steeves gave Providence a 2-0 lead in penalties kick before DePaul's Madeline Frick pushed her attempt into the upper right, cutting the Friars' advantage to 2-1.
In the third set of attempts, Providence received a 3-1 cushion as Christina Rodgers tallied the third successful penalty kick in-a-row for the Friars. An attempt by DePaul senior Alexa Ben sailed to left of the net, giving the Friars the opportunity to clinch the match and move on to the semifinals. McNulty, who scored the match's first goal, landed the match-winner for Friars, advancing Providence on the 4-1 tally.
Scouting the Wildcats (9-6-0, 3-3-0 BIG EAST)
Villanova currently sits tied for fifth place in conference standings with Creighton. They are coming off a 1-0 loss against a BIG EAST opponent in Creighton. Their offense is lead by Bri Austin who has seven goals and 15 points on the season. Behind her is Chloe O'Neill with four. Niki Molina takes the lead in assists with six and right behind her is Kristin Barbour with five. Series Stuff
Last season's victory marked the seventh consecutive win over Villanova for the Blue Demons. The series is now tied 7-7-1. An interesting all-time series, the first 7 games were all consecutive losses from 2005-2011 before a scoreless 2OT draw in 2012. Since winning a BIG EAST Championship First Round match against 'Nova in 2012 -- also the first ever victory in program history, DePaul has yet to falter against the Wildcats.Â
2017 Matchup
The DePaul women's soccer team extended its undefeated streak to four matches as the Blue Demons scored a season-high, single-match best six goals against Villanova in their 6-3 road victory. DePaul netted an early goal in the seventh minute for the 1-0 lead. On a corner by junior Franny Cerny, senior Lucy Edwards headed the ball to the right side of the box where a touch by Elizabeth Parrilli was redirected to left side of the six. There, Madeline Frick headed an attempt towards the net that was blocked by the Wildcat goalkeeper, falling to the right side of the frame. Freshman Morgan Turner found the loose ball and tapped her third goal of the season into the right side of the net.
On a free kick from 40 yards out, senior Elizabeth Endy connected with classmate Alexa Ben who headed DePaul's second goal of the match into the upper right-hand corner for the 2-0 lead. Ben's strike was her fifth of the season and 25th of her career.
Moments later, Cerny netted her BIG EAST leading ninth goal on a breakaway up the middle of the pitch. Turner, who netted DePaul's first goal of the match, intercepted a touch and found Cerny charging down the field. Cerny surged ahead for 35 yards out, breaking past three Wildcat defenders, and tapped DePaul's third goal of the match into net for the 3-0 advantage.
Villanova would briefly make the match a two-goal affair as Emily Kuefler netted a shot from just outside the 18 to make it 3-1 still in favor of the Blue Demons. In the 70th minute, a Villanova yellow card awarded in the box set up a penalty kick for Ben who tapped in her second goal of the match, collecting her sixth of the season and 26th in a DePaul jersey.
The Wildcats scratched their way to within one, 4-3, as Kristin Barbour and Kuefler netted back-to-back strike over the next three minutes of play. Once again, DePaul responded in the 80th minute when Ben tapped in a cross from Frick for her third goal of the match, notching her first hat-trick of the 2017 season. The Blue Demons would add another insurance goal in the 88th on Turner's second score of the match to seal a 6-3 victory over their BIG EAST rival.
