Tuff Advances to Main Draw at ITA Midwest Regionals

Three Blue Demons in action on Saturday

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - DePaul men's tennis junior Tripp Tuff proved to be battle tested on Friday in the final round of qualifying singles at the ITA Midwest Regionals.

Tuff took down Greg Anderson of BIG EAST foe Marquette in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to win his ninth match out of his last 10 and advance to Saturday's main draw alongside teammates Boris Spanjaard and Vito Tonejc.

Christopher Casati fell in Friday's final round of qualifying to Toledo's Vince Anzalone 2-6, 6-3, 3-6. Casati went 2-1 in qualifying singles and moved to 3-5 overall in fall tournament play.

On the doubles side, brothers Fran and Vito Tonejc led the way for the Blue Demons with a 2-1 record through three rounds of play. F. Tonejc and V. Tonejc advanced to the round of 16 with victories over Green Bay's James Ling and Lachlan Napier 8-4 and Dominik Stary and Ben Vandixhorn of Northwestern 8-7. The tandem fell in the third round to Ohio State's Alex Kobelt and James Trotter 8-4.

Blue Demon duo's of Casati and Spanjaard and Tuff and Wassenaar fell in the first round of doubles action. Michigan State's John Carlin and Jack Winkler took down Tuff and Wassenaar 8-7 in a highly contested match, while Casati and Spanjaard fell to Lenhard Haupt and Jannik Optiz of Western Michigan, 8-5.

DePaul men's tennis is back in action at the ITA Midwest Regionals tomorrow with two rounds of main draw singles beginning at 8 a.m. ET.
