Avgeri and Clousing will play for consolation singles titles on Saturday
TUSCALOOSA Ala. – Aspasia Avgeri came away with a victory Friday in the consolation singles of the 21-team Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by Alabama.
Avgeri outdueled Andjelija Bozvoic of Indiana 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4) in quite a battle and advanced to the consolation title match on Saturday against Melissa Pick of Wisconsin.
In her Fall Classic opener at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility inside the Alabama Tennis Stadium, Avgeri was edged in another hard-fought match 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) by Alisa Diercksen of East Carolina.
Keisha Clousing will also play for the consolation title of her flight after advancing on a walkover against Alexandria Stiteler of South Carolina. The DePaul senior will face T.J. Fumagalli of the Air Force on Saturday. She lost 6-3, 6-4 in her opening match to Anna Vrbenska of Mississippi.
Blue Demon teammates Marija Jovicic and Milica Tesic will both have a consolation match on Saturday after each dropped a pair of singles matches on Friday.
In doubles, the DePaul duo of Jovicic and Avgeri lost their first-round match and will face Asel Jumamukhambetova and Jemima Potter of Tennessee-Martin in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
Clousing and Tesic also fell in their doubles opener and will oppose Denise Azcui and Kristina Tirasplolsky of Western Michigan in Saturday's consolation round.
